Four Holland Hall seniors have qualified as National Merit Semifinalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program: Christian Shearer, Alex Rao, Lily Fears and Marcela Pierre . More than 1.5 million high school students nationwide took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of this number, the top one half of one percent qualifies to become semifinalists. 16,000 of the highest performers were recently designated Semifinalists. Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors. They will be competing for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.
