Dear Holland Hall Families,

All of us hope you had a restful fall break. Changing leaves and the typical unpredictable Oklahoma weather greeted us on this side of it. It remains so refreshing to see our community taking advantage of being outside. We are truly fortunate to share this place together, aren’t we?

Below, please find some additional information and some important policy updates. We also need your feedback.

Your feedback: We’re at the 25% mark for the year and ask that you take a few moments to complete this survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HH2020-21) for us. Much planning for this year, and the next, remains, and your early feedback would be extremely helpful to that work. The survey will remain open until next Friday, October 30, at noon.

A policy update: To date, we have asked families and employees to complete a daily survey before coming to school in the morning. The purpose of the survey was to help instill a health check habit in the morning routine. We hope that habit has been instilled by now. Starting Monday, that survey will no longer be required. We do ask that you continue to check for any symptoms in the mornings, take a temperature, and reach out to Nurse Christensen by phone (918-879-4714) with any questions about whether it’s advisable to come to school. We will continue to offer reminders about keeping this daily habit in place in the Dutch Weekly.

Contact tracing: New guidance was recently issued from the CDC expanding the definition of close contact for contact tracing purposes. To date, close contact was defined as being within six feet of an infected person for 15 or more minutes (in one discrete event). The new guidance changes the definition to within six feet of an infected person for 15 or more minutes accumulated over a 24-hour period.

Nurse Linda Christensen, who is responsible for contact tracing at Holland Hall, has reviewed the guidance and updated our contact tracing guidelines to reflect them. We remain committed to staying on top of any guidance from national and local authorities, as well as with our medical panel.

By the numbers: While we maintain our Covid-related data here on the school website, we wanted to share this high level overview of our historical numbers since our first day of school, August 25.

To date…

  • Positive Covid cases in employees: 8 (3.4% of all current employees)
  • Positive Covid cases in students: 8 (0.79% of student population)
  • Quarantined employees: 16 (6.8%)
  • Quarantined students: 51 (5.1%)

Based on our contact tracing, it is likely we have had one instance of transmission from one person to another on campus. Two other possible transmissions have occurred, but due to the fact that the transmissions were within a family, it’s hard for us to know if campus exposure played a part.

As always, we ask that all of us remain steadfast in our work to keep anyone feeling ill from coming to school and to limit possible exposure. Additionally, and especially as the cold weather sets in more permanently, please take a few moments to have that kitchen table conversation, again, about community wellness. Our Commitment to Community Wellness can be found here.

Yours,

J.P. Culley
Head of School
